Teenage mother

Today I saw a teenage mother foraging in my backyard. Her infant was so small.

Her coat was not uniform. I don’t think she is mangy but I don’t think she’s healthy. She’s splotchy.

I usually name all the critters but I don’t know what to call this girl.

I feel sorry for her. I want to give her food but they say around here that a fed bear is a dead bear.

It’s the first of September. I learned a new word. Hyperphagia. The bears are hungry. I have seen probably four mommas with at least eight tiny babies. The babies are so small. I don’t know how they will survive the winter.

Not sure how we will.
